The Imibala Cookery Kitchen

Arrow Arrow Slider Recently my cousin Anette (another super foodie!) asked if I wanted to come to a cooking demonstration with her. I would have been up for any sort of cooking demo which meant a night with adults and a few hours away from the girls ;) The cooking demo was with Sam Linsell, one of the top food bloggers in South Africa, who happens to be a friend of Anette’s, so I was definitely interested to go and see what this was all about. We arrived at Imibala and was greeted by Sam herself and Josie, who was involved with organising the evening. Josie, who is actually a radio DJ and only assisting with this organisation on the side, explained to us in detail what this Imibala cookery kitchen was all about. ‘Imibala’ is the Xhosa word for ‘colours’ and is a very special project taking place in Somerset West in South Africa. The Imibala Cookery Kitchen is one of the projects designed to raise money for the Imibala Trust. The trust looks after the interest of school children in impoverished areas, and now clothes more then 1600 school children each year, and provides art, music appreciation, pottery, drama and ballet classes to various schools. They also offer math classes, life skills and career development. All profits made from the Restaurant, Gallery and the Cookery Kitchen goes to supporting this trust. They offer various types of events, and this specific evening with Sam Linsell was great. The whole night was perfectly organised, on arrival we got greeted with a nice cold glass of white wine. Sam went through 4 recipes and we all sat around the newly built kitchen and watched her cook while asking questions, and happily drinking some wine! At the end of the evening we all sat down and enjoyed all the food together with some more wine… Here are the dishes that she demonstrated: Spicy Caramel Popcorn Yotam Ottolenghi’s Cauliflower Cake Roasted Onion & Beetroot Tart Tartin with Balsamic Caramel & Thyme Easy marshmallows with Lapsang Souchong swirl I had such a great evening, and what a bonus to know that I am supporting such a great cause!! Keep up to date with the events on offer, through their website! If you want some of Sam’s recipes, make sure you sign up for my newsletter where I will share some of her nice dishes! ________________ Imibala website Imibala.com
